Obsidian Innovation Institute – Obsidian I² – is a non-profit, member-driven research and innovation organisation that supports the development, validation and responsible adoption of advanced digital and engineering technologies. We work with research actors, SMEs, industrial partners and public stakeholders to turn emerging capabilities into practical, deployable and measurable outcomes.
The institute brings together multidisciplinary interests across digital systems, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, geospatial and space-enabled applications, high-performance computing, interaction technologies, energy, agriculture, sustainability and applied innovation. Our approach combines research, technological development, collaboration, pilots, strategic analysis and knowledge exchange.
Alongside its association activities, Obsidian I² carries out research, technological development and innovation activities with members and partners, including applied R&D, prototyping, pilots, validation, interoperability work, strategic analysis, and dissemination of non-confidential outcomes and good practices.
We see innovation as more than invention. For advanced technologies to create value, they must be technically sound, context-aware, understandable, responsible and capable of being adopted in real settings. Obsidian I² therefore works across the path from concept and experimentation to collaboration, validation and practical use.
