AgriTwin completes Develop phase – Prototype ready for deployment on the pilot farm
AgriTwin has concluded its Develop phase, delivering the initial prototype of the Agricultural Digital Solution (ADS) and preparing for deployment and validation on the pilot farm. Development activities progressed as planned, enabling the project to move from concept and requirements into a functional, integrated system.
The Develop phase resulted in a working implementation of the core capabilities, including data ingestion, decision-support logic, and the Environmental Digital Twin layer. Integration work also progressed with OpenAgri reusable services, ensuring the solution can demonstrate interoperability with existing open-source components.
Key outcomes from the Develop phase
- A functional ADS prototype combining an AI-enabled DSS and an Environmental Digital Twin.
- Integration of on-farm data and external datasets (including Copernicus and OpenAgri services).
- Two comparable implementations sharing the same data model and functional scope, differing only in where computation takes place:
- Cloud-based ADS – cloud ingestion and processing, serving interactive decision support and digital twin outputs.
- Mixed edge plus cloud ADS – on-farm buffering and lightweight inference, with condensed outputs synchronised to the cloud for persistence, visualisation, and audit.
What happens next
The project now enters the Deploy phase, where the ADS will be installed and operated in the pilot environment. End-user feedback gathered during deployment will be used to refine workflows, usability, and operational reliability, ensuring the solution remains fit for purpose under real-world conditions.
